Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Nano Men’s Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver Review

My relationship with the  Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Nano Men’s Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver is one of love and pleasure. I first met this charming electric shaver two years ago in 2008 when it was first released. It was a Christmas gift from my wife and I remember fondly my first thoughts of holding it. The soft calming blue rubberized grip easing into my hands while the shaver stared at me, looking proud and competent at the same time.

It was a Sunday morning when I first tried it after breakfast. I fell in love when I turned it on. The succulent melody and hum of the ES8243A reminded me of lawn mowers in the far distance. While I spaced out and thought of idyllic afternoons and the smell of fresh grass, I continue shaving automatically. I ended up finishing in 5 minutes, much faster than I usually do.

And that’s how the Panasonic ES8243A and I got acquainted. Over the years I’ve used the Panasonic ES8243A regularly, although I would sometimes use other electric shavers I’ve bought or received as gifts. But this particular shaver always had a soft spot in my heart.

I think its because this was  first electric shaver from my wife (who has given me others since) and it was also one of the first electric shavers where I actually had fun using. It’s never a chore to use the Panasonic ES8243A Vortex. Always a pleasure.

Before I continue to wax poetic about something as mundane as an electric shaver, let’s take a look at its features.

Overview and Features of the Panasonic ES8243A

The Panasonic ES8243A features the sharpest 30 degree blades in the industry. And not only is each blade polished with nano technology, which eliminates yanking and pulling, but the quadruple foil head allows those blades to glide effortlessly over every contour of your face and neck, leaving you with a smooth, clean shave every time.

You’ll also spend less time shaving with this model, thanks to a 32% larger cutting surface than previous models and the powerful linear motor that runs at 13000 RPM, which blows away more pedestrian shavers that run at a paltry 8000 RPM. Best of all, this model is fully submersible in water thanks to its wet/dry design, so you can shave in the shower or with lather for an even closer shave.

My 2 Year Experience With the Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Electric Shaver

When it first arrived, I was very impressed. It looks a lot better in real life than it does on the website, it’s very sleek and cool and feels very well made. It fits extremely well in the hand and has a nice rubberized texture for grip. But, the real proof would be in the performance.

I initially used it for a dry shave and it worked brilliantly! It’s four blade system gave the closest shave I’d ever experienced, at least with an electric razor. But my favorite thing was the lack of irritation and the fact that it could cut my neck hair with ease.

This was like a revelation for me. I generally stick to a dry shave but I’ve since used it for wet shave’s too without problems, often in the shower. It really does work like a charm and generally does what it is designed to do. The actual speed of shaving is incredibly quick and I find that for the most part it will cut all the hair in one stroke, something that most razors don’t live up to.

It’s a cinch to clean so I really don’t feel that I’m missing out on the cleaning station. As the trimmer can be used wet or dry, it’s easy enough to rinse under the tap. I’ll usually just wash it under the tap whilst on turbo mode and may be pour a little bit of liquid soap through the blades. It literally takes a couple of minutes.

The only minor quibble is that I would prefer that it has a longer battery life. The Panasonic ES8243A gives me around 7 -8 shaves per charge, which is quite decent. This means you can get about a week’s worth of shaving before you have to recharge, although it definitely depends on how particular you are.  This isn’t a big deal for me but I could see it being a bit of a hassle if you were traveling a lot and don’t have access to power outlets.

So here’s a summary of the Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Men’s Shaver:

Pros:

  • Large cutting surface = fewer passes and less time going over the same area again

  • Average when it comes to precision trimming but still decent enough

Should You Buy the Panasonic ES8243A Arc IV Men’s Shaver?

As you can see, it’s pretty hard to fault the Panasonic ES8243A. It’s a very high quality electric shaver at a relatively low price. In fact I think its under-priced because of its fantastic design and powerful shaving capabilities. You really do get what you paid for and you can hardly go wrong with choosing this amazing electric shaver.

While I think the Panasonic  ES-LA93-K Vortex Shaver is a slightly better electric shaver because of its pivoting heads, cleaning system and shaver speed, the Panasonic ES8243A is great if you are on a budget and don’t want to spend too much. It’s a very reliable electric shaver that will last you years. Mine is around 2 years old and it’s still works as good as new.

And to answer the question, yes. You should definitely buy this excellent electric shaver. Highly recommended.
